Worship Planning for August 9, 2009 Part V

Had a bit of an oops last night. I realized that we’d done Shine Jesus Shine last week, and as a personal rule, I try and avoid repeating songs too often. So, we’re doing Shout to the Lord instead.

Here’s the full order of events for this weekend’s service:
  • Announcements: Pastor Ron
  • Shout to the Lord
  • Greeting
  • Lord I Lift Your Name On High
  • Be Thou My Vision
  • Pastoral Prayer
  • Offeratory: – Piano Solo
  • Good To Me
  • Communion: – Piano Solo
  • Message

I am not as satisfied with this service as I have been with others. Hopefully God will still use it though.

Worship Planning for August 9, 2009 Part IV

After some thinking and talking with some of the other people that work in the music ministry at church, I have decided on a different set of songs for this weeks service. Here’s a list:

  • Lord I Lift You Name On High
  • Be Thou My Vision
  • Good To Me
  • Shine Jesus Shine

Hopefully this will bless the people at church. Now I just need to get lyrics to the church and start putting binders together. Rehearsal tomorrow!

Worship Planning for August 9, 2009 Part III

Well…

I ended up having my wife e-mail a great list of songs and it really got me going. I got some great inspiration. Then I realized that that lady is playing… You know… The lady who learned to play the hymns from the people who wrote them. :p

I’m kidding. This lady has always had difficulty playing more contemporary music. I had a nice list of music going and then I noticed that a lot of it is “newer” stuff. I’m hoping that she’ll be able to play them all.

Here’s what I’ve come up w/ so far:

  • Blessed Be Your Name
  • I Stand Amazed
  • Better is One Day
  • Above All

I need a few more songs. We’re doing communion this Sunday so I need some music playing in the background. I may just have our pianist play something. Whenever you give her the chance to do what she wants, it’s incredible!

I want more

I’m in a place where I’m realizing I want more out of life. Right now my life is very simple and plain. Not a lot going on. The last big event that I had in my life, Spocon, has passed. Now the only things to occupy my time besides work, is planning worship services for church. And that’s on a very inconsistent schedule.

Seeing other people move on with their lives makes me realize how stagnant I’ve been. I’ve got friends that are getting married in the next week, I’ve got other friends releasing CD’s, and I have other friends truly living their dreams. I envy them.

I wish I had their courage to pursue my dreams. That lack of courage has kept me from being the musician I want to be. I never have the courage to share my own thoughts. Like right now, I’m paranoid people are going to find this blog and think I’m weird. It’s rough. But I need to learn to be vulnerable and share my words/music if God is going to use it. He will give me the courage.

Worship Planning for August 9, 2009 Part II

Well, it’s Tuesday and I haven’t been able to come up with any music for this weekends worship service. I haven’t been able to come up with a theme much less songs to go with that theme. I’ve been in this road block before and it’s never fun. I hope God inspires me today.

I plan on going to church this evening to get music all setup and ready to go. Hopefully I’ll know what I’m doing by then.

Anthony Celia Band EP

Anthony Celia Band

Just wanted to give a quick plug for my good friend Anthony Celia. He just released his new EP today. You can download it on iTunes here.

It’s an awesome album. I’m excited to see where God takes this awesome worship leader.

Worship planning for August 9, 2009

I’m leading music at my church again this weekend. Which means time to start planning and putting a bunch of music together. It’s such an awesome process. To think about putting music together so that people can corporately praise God. It’s an amazing time to sit down and think about the words of songs and their meaning and how they can draw people into God’s presence.

Whenever I do try to plan worship, I try and think of a central theme that can be sung throughout the music. In an ideal world, the music would say the exact same thing as the message being preached that day is saying. Unfortunately that doesn’t always work. So through prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit, I pick songs that I believe God is leading me to.

I am not certain yet where God is leading for this week of worship. We will find out in the next few hours, hopefully. My personal goal would be to have all of the music at least picked out by tonight and e-mailed to Armida at church by the morning. We’ll see if that desire matches up with God’s plan for this week.

Spocon 2009

As one of my last forays into the technology industry, I fulfilled my duties as LAN chair for Spocon 2009.

I was again confirmed to me this weekend that while technology is a great hobby. It’s not what I’m supposed to be doing with my life. I did nothing but sit in the LAN room and watch people play games all day long. It was a good time to reconnect with a lot of my friends from Clan HOOD and see some new faces that I’d only talked to through forums before.

I am not nearly as exhausted as I was last year. I actually made it into work today on time. I took the Monday after the con off last year. I also took the time to sleep during the con. I ended up shutting the lan room down Saturday night at 1am because I didn’t want to be extremely tired the next morning (I had to lead worship at church).

Overall I’m glad it’s over and glad to be closing the book on that part of my life. Jason is planning on starting up LAN gaming under Orange Blossom Studios, a game design studio he and I are apart of. If we do end up starting up a new LAN gaming group, I will be on the side-lines offering what advice I can. Jason has the drive and the motivation to do it. I wish him well.
