A New Day

I have been waking up a lot for the past few nights. Not certain why, but I keep waking up early in the morning and I’m unable to go back to sleep. Today I was up two or three times between the time I fell asleep (midnightish) to now (approx. 5:20am). I am not certain why that is but I’m not terribly concerned. I’m going to try to take advantage of the opportunity and spend some more time in God’s Word getting to know who He is.

That has become one of my biggest struggles, getting into God’s Word consistently. I’ve always struggled with things that I know are supposed to happen consistently. It’s very tough to be stuck in the place of wanting to but never doing. I constantly feel like I’m not a good Christian because I don’t want to spend time growing my faith. God knows I need to figure this out, now more than ever. With the likelihood of Theresa and I moving to Portland soon so I can go to school, I’d like to have already established some good habits about prayer and scripture studying. I know I can’t do it on my own though. I need to find a group or someone to keep me accountable. If I don’t find that here, I pray I find that at school.

Here’s to a new day, a day full of amazing potential. I hope I don’t waste it.

Worship Planning for September 27, 2009 – Part III

So one minor change on the worship order. I decided to switch In Christ Alone for Ancient of Days. It fits better with the theme I am going for this Sunday. So the whole schedule looks like this:

Arise
I Saw The Light
Ancient of Days
I Stand Amazed
Hosanna (Praise Is Rising) – Special
Lord Most High

I am making copies and putting the binders together right now. Rehearsal tomorrow!

Worship Planning for September 27, 2009 – Part II

Ok. So after some long thoughts and considerations, I think I’ve finally come up with what we’re gonna do for worship music this Sunday.

Arise
I saw the Light – The Hymn version, not the David Crowder Version
In Christ Alone
I Stand Amazed (In the Presence) – Another Hymn
Hosanna (Praises Rising) – Special
Lord Most High

I think that’s the right one. Now… to make binders and get lyrics to the church so they can go in the bulletin.

Worship Planning for September 27, 2009

So I’ve been actually thinking about worship since last week but I am stuck in a rut and not certain where to go.

Here is what I’ve come up with so far:

Arise
I saw the Light – The Hymn version, not the David Crowder Version
In Christ Alone
I Stand Amazed (In the Presence) – Another Hymn
I Will Rise – Special
We Will Dance

I am really not certain about the special and the last song. We Will Dance is OK, but I’m really not liking I Will Rise as the special. I want something more celebratory and upbeat. Not so much of a downer. I’m just not sure what that song should be. I’m going to keep praying and hope I can get something figured out before two or three so we can start getting programs made.

Something That Came To Me Today

I was working on worship for this Sunday and I had a bit of inspiration so I wrote what came to me. Not sure if I’ll ever do anything w/ it but it’s the first time I’ve written creatively like that in a long time. Enjoy!

I can’t think of words to describe the joy we’ll see
At the place we’ll be, with Jesus Thee
What a joy, what a thrill, with Jesus still
Carrying out The Creator’s Will
Not mine but thine be done

We will dance and sing
Around Jesus we will swing
Arms held high, and praises rise
To the Almighty King of everything

One with the Son in Glory
The bridegroom to the Man
The word, made flesh, alive again
Living breathing moving doing
Almighty King of Creation

Sin is gone, death is done
There is nothing but life in Christ
What a joy it will be, to see
My Jesus, face to face with Thee

Post about worship planning for this weekend is incoming.

I Will Rise

As many people of this day and age, I have a twitter and I semi-regularly tweet on it. As you’ve noticed by my twitter updates on the right sidebar. One of the people on twitter that I follow is Aaron Shust. One of his updates caught my attention:

aaronshust: Tomlin’s “I Will Rise” was never a big deal to me,until singing it with him at Night of Joy. Powerful.

I decided to check out the song. It was AMAZING!!! So awesome. The bridge gets me every single time I hear it. It goes from Chris singing by himself to a huge chorus of people singing praises to God. It’s awesome.

It’s almost like my generations version of It Is Well. Talking about even though we’re in bad situations, God will still raise us up on eagle’s wings and shelter us from the storm. It’s really a blessing. I think I might use that as the special music for the next worship service I lead.

Here’s a video from youtube of the song with the lyrics. The video after that is Chris talking about how the song came about and what it means to him. Be blessed!

Whoops! Life just happened

So life just kinda blew by and I haven’t taken the time to update this here blog of mine.

Here’s a fun list of things that have happened in the last two weeks:

  • Celebrated the two year anniversary with my wife
  • Flew to Las Vegas and celebrated the wedding of Matt & Amanda Johnson
  • Spoke and lead worship at the retreat for Christian Heritage School
  • Drove to Seattle and was best man in my best friend Arick Olson’s wedding to his wife Jessy

Needless to say it’s been a busy few weeks. I’m leading worship this Sunday (the 13th) at church. Our roof is being redone and so because of it we’re having the services in our fellowship hall. It’s time for me to go to bed. More substantial posts incoming. I promise.
