Dave Ramsey Update
So I mentioned awhile ago that I had started reading Dave Ramsey’s book The Total Money Makeover. I really enjoyed it and I enjoy a lot of the principles that Dave puts out there in his book. It’s very simple and very straight forward, but it’s somewhat time consuming. Like, a lifetime, time consuming. But I think it’s going to be worth it.

On Birthdays
Today I turn 25. A quarter-century. It almost seems like 25 is the marker for being “older.” And I mean that at 25, you’re supposed to have your career figured out and be well on your way to making yourself the President of some Fortune 500 company. I dunno. That always seems the stereotype of what is expected of people my age.
I am the complete opposite of that right now. I don’t have a ton of career aspirations and I have just started “real” school this last year. All I really know is that I enjoy leading worship and that I want to do that for as long as I can. We’ll see where that takes me.
My ultimate goal in the end is to be a follower of Christ in wherever He leads me. If that means turning left when the world says right, I’ll turn left. If that means I drop school right now and go live in Africa, I will. I want to be caught in the center of God’s will, chasing after those things that make Him smile.
I guess you could say that’s my birthday wish (I know I’m not supposed to tell
) but that is the desire of my heart; to chase after the desires of His heart. I hope I can get there some day. I need to work harder at it. More discipline to keep focused on Him and His desires. More time spent in prayer and in the Word… Lots of changes I need to make in my life. I pray for the discipline to be the disciple I want to be.
So here’s to 25 years of life, and to hoping I have another 85 left in me :p

So… it’s been almost exactly two months since the last time I wrote in my blog. What’s been going on in my life? Not much. Still working at Best Buy as a Geek Squad agent and loving it. Great people and lots of fun to work there. There’s hardly ever a dull moment at my job.
Theresa still hasn’t moved down here sadly… she’s interviewed for a couple of jobs but nobody has hired her yet sadly… So I have two roommates living w/ me til school starts or until Theresa gets a job, whichever comes first.
I am trying to start studying through the book of Ruth through the methods I learned in my Bible Study Methods class this last semester. I’m excited to start applying the same methods to my own personal study; maybe it’ll help prompt my own reading and quiet times. We’ll see.
As for now, I sleep. I’m hoping I’ll be able to write more. I am slowly getting the motivation again and I want to be able to become a much more consistent writer. Here’s to hoping for something more!

So as of 2:00pm PST this afternoon, my long streak of being unemployed came to an end! I was officially offered a job at Best Buy as a member of the geek squad. I still have to pass the drug test and the background check but I don’t think that’ll be a problem.
It’s nice to know that I have work now and that I have something that will start bringing money in again. Having to rely on Theresa’s single income has been rough but knowing that I’ll finally be able to contribute again is a good feeling. I am not certain the exact amount of hours I’ll be working but I’m assuming it’ll be sometime between 25 and 30 hours.
I also think this is a good job for me to have because it plays to the skills I have while I’m gaining new skills in music. I’m really glad to finally have a job again. Hopefully I won’t get overwhelmed with work and school. Pray for me for that please!

While life is rough apart from Theresa, things are getting better. I’ve got a job interview on Wednesday and I will hopefully soon be employed by the Geek Squad!
I was able to randomly see Theresa this weekend which was great! It made me really happy that I got to see her. Made getting homework done extremely difficult but I was glad to see her. I didn’t realize how much I was in need of seeing her until she walked through the door. Thankfully she’ll be back down here in a few weeks for her birthday.
I also am hopeful about the church I went to last night, interestingly enough called “Door of Hope.” The pastor of the church is the lead singer/songwriter/guitarist for the band Telecast. The church itself is only four months old and it’s a very open and welcoming place. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The pastor, Josh, preaches a theology I believe of Christ in you. Overall it was a good experience. I plan on attending again and looking for God’s direction more than anything else.

I recently went and picked up a great new addition to the family. I haven’t picked out a name quite yet but I’m thinking I might call him Bentley. We’ll see. Here are some cell-phone quality pictures that I can post until I get a better camera.

Not certain why I keep ignoring writing on my blog but I do. Here’s an update on life and what’s been happening w/ me:
We had a very merry Christmas this year. Funding was tight for all parties involved so the tree had smaller amounts but better gifts for all of us that were there. It was a great Christmas with a lot of family.
It was hard to get into the Christmas spirit this year because we were packing our apartment up as we were preparing to move me down to Portland to start school at Multnomah University. It was looking a little dicey for getting all of our stuff together but with the help of my friends and my parents especially we were able to get all of our stuff packed up and loaded into our moving truck.
On Monday Dec. 28th, we left Spokane and started the long trek from Spokane to Portland. My parents joined us on the road trip down and again were a HUGE help getting us down here and set-up. We now have a nice three bedroom apartment that is a big upgrade over what we had before. It’s two stories with the living room, kitchen and dining room on the first floor and all of the bedrooms upstairs. It’s a much better layout than our last apartment. It also has a lot more windows meaning we get a lot more natural light in our apartment. This is a very good thing. Once I get it more setup, I will post some pictures for people to see.
Today started orientation for school. This helped us figure out which classes we wanted and what schedules we wanted as well as what we needed to get done for our major’s. I had intended to have all day full of classes but all of the classes I originally wanted we full so I had to adjust my schedule around and now all of my classes happen in the afternoon. Kind of a cool/scary thought that I’m in charge of scheduling my own classes and taking them when I want. I’ve never had that before.
One cool part that they had with orientation was they had a Faculty Friend outing. Basically all of us transfer students met up with a professor, Dave, and hung out and got to know him, and each other a lot better. I made some cool friends with a very young married couple that are going to Multnomah on faith just like I am. God is an amazing God that is providing a lot for a lot of the people I met tonight. It’s awesome to be able to brag about how big and amazing my God is. It’s nice to know that He’s big enough to share too :p
It’s late so I will cut this blog off now before I continue to ramble for another six or seven paragraphs. I need to rest. Early morning tomorrow too.
Be blessed!

Not certain why I haven’t been writing here lately but I haven’t been. I think a lot of it has to do with me going stir crazy the last few weeks. I’ve been couped up in our apartment with nothing really to do. I was just excited to go out driving at one point. Being jobless is kinda nice but it’s also pretty boring. It’d help if I was willing to work on projects around the house and I have had the willingness but I have lacked the motivation to act on the willingness. Hopefully that’ll change this week.
I’m heading out to the lake with my mom and grandpa in a few minutes to close that up. Then it’s back home to clean up and get ready for Heroes night. Much excitement will abound!

So life just kinda blew by and I haven’t taken the time to update this here blog of mine.
- Here’s a fun list of things that have happened in the last two weeks:
- Celebrated the two year anniversary with my wife
- Flew to Las Vegas and celebrated the wedding of Matt & Amanda Johnson
- Spoke and lead worship at the retreat for Christian Heritage School
- Drove to Seattle and was best man in my best friend Arick Olson’s wedding to his wife Jessy
Needless to say it’s been a busy few weeks. I’m leading worship this Sunday (the 13th) at church. Our roof is being redone and so because of it we’re having the services in our fellowship hall. It’s time for me to go to bed. More substantial posts incoming. I promise.

Happy Anniversary Theresa! I'm blessed to be married to you!
I promised to be the best husband I could be to my wonderful wife Theresa. What a blessing it’s been to be married to her. It is truly an honor to be able to call her my wife. Posted on August 25th, 2009 by howie | No Comments »
